On Wednesday, the standing committee of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) approved a proposal to rename its administrative zones in alignment with the newly created revenue districts of Delhi. Chairperson Satya Sharma stated that this change is in accordance with the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act of 1957, which allows for modifications in zone names, numbers, or areas with Central government approval. The number of revenue districts in the capital has increased from 11 to 13, prompting the need for this alignment to improve inter-departmental coordination. Significant name changes include renaming the Narela zone to Outer-North, Civil Lines to North, and Rohini to North-West. Other changes include Keshavpuram to North-Central and Karol Bagh to City-Sadar Paharganj. Notably, the geographical boundaries of the zones will remain unchanged, and the proposal will be forwarded to the house of councillors for final approval.
