The standing committee of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has approved a proposal to rename its zones to align with the revenue districts established by the Delhi government. This decision is intended to improve administrative coordination and reduce overlap. Under the new naming scheme, 'Narela' will become 'Outer-North', 'Civil Lines' will be renamed 'North', and 'Rohini' will change to 'North-West'. Other zones like 'Karol Bagh' will be called 'City-Sadar Paharganj', while 'Najafgarh' will be renamed 'South-West'. The names 'Shahdara' and 'North Shahdara' will be simplified to 'East' and 'North-East', respectively. Notably, the South and West zones will retain their current names. This restructuring follows the increase in the number of revenue districts in Delhi from 11 to 13 in December 2022. MCD chairperson Satya Sharma emphasized that the changes are purely nominal and will not alter the geographical boundaries of any zone. The proposal will be forwarded to the Ministry of Home Affairs for final approval before being published in the official Gazette.
