Voting for the 2026 Assembly Elections has commenced today in Assam, Kerala, and Puducherry. In Assam, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is seeking to secure a second consecutive term, facing off against the Indian National Congress in a crucial contest. This election is particularly significant as it follows the 2023 delimitation, which redrew constituencies in the northeastern state, impacting areas with significant Muslim voter populations. In Kerala, the election is characterized as a three-way race among the BJP, the ruling Left Democratic Front, and the Congress party, with the BJP anticipated to perform better than in previous elections. Meanwhile, in Puducherry, N Rangaswamy's All India N.R. Congress (AINRC), allied with the BJP and AIADMK, aims for a fourth term against the Congress-Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) alliance. The results of these elections will be announced on May 4.
