In response to rising local fuel demand, Indian refiners, including Indian Oil Corporation and Bharat Petroleum Corporation, have decided to defer their scheduled maintenance shutdowns. Sujata Sharma, joint secretary in the federal oil ministry, confirmed this development on Monday. However, Nayara Energy will proceed with a maintenance shutdown at its Vadinar refinery, which has a capacity of 400,000 barrels per day, starting on April 9. This shutdown may tighten the supply of liquefied petroleum gas in India. Nayara had originally planned to shut the refinery for maintenance last year but postponed it due to challenges in securing essential items amid European Union sanctions.

The delay in maintenance shutdowns will help ensure a steady fuel supply for consumers, but the upcoming shutdown at Nayara's refinery may lead to a temporary shortage of liquefied petroleum gas.
