In response to the ongoing conflict in West Asia, state-run refineries in India, including Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL), are delaying routine maintenance schedules to maintain a stable fuel supply. Sujata Sharma, joint secretary at the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, highlighted the need for uninterrupted liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) supplies, which are currently affected by geopolitical tensions. India, the world's fourth-largest refiner, has an annual crude processing capacity of 258 million tonnes. While maintenance at some refineries is postponed, the Vadinar refinery of Nayara Energy will proceed with a 35-day maintenance due to safety concerns. Despite the situation, domestic LPG deliveries remain normal, with over 18 crore cylinders delivered since March 1, 2026. However, daily domestic LPG production has declined to approximately 46,000-47,000 tonnes, down from 50,000 tonnes in late March 2026. Meanwhile, natural gas supplies to urea plants are expected to increase to 90% of their average consumption, up from 70-75%.
