On April 7, 2023, the Delhi government announced a significant increase in the supply of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) for migrant workers, doubling the daily allocation to 1,368 cylinders of 5 kg each. The quota for commercial LPG for these workers has also been raised from 180 to 360 cylinders per day. This decision is part of a revised total daily cap of 6,480 cylinders (equivalent to 19 kg), which prioritizes essential services, including education and health institutions, government institutions, and food processing units. The government has instructed oil marketing companies (OMCs) to adhere strictly to this cap and report any transfers between categories. To ensure fair distribution, Aadhaar verification will be mandatory for receiving free trade LPG cylinders, and a centralized beneficiary database will be maintained to prevent duplication. The Food and Supplies Minister, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, emphasized the government's commitment to fair distribution and announced that inspections will be conducted to prevent hoarding and black marketing. Reports of gas shortages were dismissed as baseless, with the minister urging residents to book cylinders through authorized OMCs.
