On Saturday, the Special Branch of the Delhi Police arrested 22-year-old Sheikh Imran from Bhubaneswar, Odisha for his alleged ties to a radical group. Police sources indicated that Imran, who is unemployed, was an active member of this group, engaging with extremist content through social media platforms like WhatsApp and Signal. The arrest came after the Delhi Police had previously detained a group of young individuals in Delhi for questioning regarding radical social media posts. Imran's online activities had been under surveillance, leading to his arrest based on substantial evidence. Preliminary investigations revealed that some of his posts were objectionable and posed a threat to national security. Following the arrest, he was presented before a sub-divisional judicial magistrate in Bhubaneswar and subsequently taken on transit remand by the Delhi Police for further investigation into his links with other extremist organizations.
