The Delhi government has announced a comprehensive strategy to manage the increasing pressure on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) supply, which includes collaboration with the central government for policy interventions. During a press conference, Additional Commissioner Arun Kumar Jha highlighted that Delhi has approximately 56 lakh domestic LPG connections and urged residents to ensure their connections are registered correctly to prevent misuse. The government is also advocating for a transition from LPG to piped natural gas (PNG), stating that the pipeline network has expanded to reach every village. A control room has been established to monitor the situation and handle complaints, with helpline numbers available for residents to report suspicious activities. Enforcement actions have already led to the seizure of 100 LPG cylinders in areas like Alipur and Bawana, and 27 cases related to hoarding and illegal diversion have been registered. The demand for LPG has surged, with bookings rising to 2 lakh per day, leading to some supply backlogs. To alleviate pressure, the government has introduced measures allowing migrant laborers to obtain 5 kg cylinders without a regular connection. The target for PNG connections has increased from 1,000 to 3,000, reflecting the government's commitment to stabilizing the energy supply chain and curbing black marketing.
