In a significant fraud case in Gurugram, Haryana, four men were arrested for cheating a local resident out of ₹2.49 crore (approximately $300,000 USD) by selling fake gold coins. The incident began when the victim was approached by an unknown individual on February 13, who offered gold and silver coins at attractive rates. After verifying the authenticity of initial coins, the victim was convinced to arrange a large sum of money. On March 2, the accused collected the cash and gold from the victim's home, delivering brass coins instead. The gang operated under the guise of poor laborers, claiming to have discovered the coins during excavation work. They would often travel long distances to evade capture. Police have arrested four members of the gang, with one suspect having a 25-year history of similar frauds, previously targeting individuals in Mumbai and Gujarat. Authorities have recovered ₹2.30 crore in cash and 678 grams of gold from the suspects, and investigations are ongoing to apprehend other gang members.
