The recent spike in school shootings in Turkey has left the nation in shock, with the death toll from the latest incidents reaching 10. On Wednesday, a 14-year-old gunman, Isa Aras Mersinli, opened fire at a middle school in Kahramanmaras, killing a teacher and eight students while injuring 13 others. The shooter, who was killed during the attack, used firearms belonging to his father, a retired police superintendent, who has since been arrested. This incident followed a shooting in Sanliurfa where a former student injured 16 people before taking his own life. In response, Turkish authorities detained 20 individuals connected to the Sanliurfa shooting and are investigating social media threats, having arrested 67 users for posts suggesting potential attacks on schools. The Ministry of Family and Social Services has also set up a team to provide psychosocial support to affected families. Funerals for the victims were held on Thursday, prompting calls for enhanced security measures in schools across the country.
