The Supreme Court of India has intervened to protect a serving judicial officer in Delhi who was kidnapped in 2008 and is currently receiving threats from individuals convicted in the case. A bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and Vipul M Pancholi directed the Delhi Police to ensure the officer's safety and to assess the threat level to his brother, who is also a judicial officer in Gujarat. The court emphasized that adequate security measures must be implemented, considering the criminal backgrounds of the convicts involved. Additionally, the court ruled that no parole or remission should be granted to these convicts without the permission of the jurisdictional high court. If the Punjab and Haryana High Court allows any such request, the order will be stayed for two weeks to enable the officer to seek legal remedies. The court's decision highlights the importance of protecting judicial officers and their families from potential harm.
