In Pune, Maharashtra, two undergraduate students pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) have been booked by police for performing a dance to a song that allegedly glorifies Madvi Hidma, a notorious Naxal commander. The performance took place during a cultural event at the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Government Hostel for Boys on April 11. Following the emergence of a video on social media showing the dance, objections were raised by right-wing activists, prompting police to investigate. Hidma, who was killed in an encounter with security forces in November 2025, was known for orchestrating numerous Naxal attacks and had a bounty of ₹1 crore on his head. The students, aged 22 and 23, hail from Gadchiroli district and have been charged under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including promoting enmity. The hostel authorities stated that the students chose the song inadvertently due to its appealing beats, but police maintain that their actions posed a threat to India's national integration.
