The Sector 12 bus stand in Gurugram, Haryana, has become a focal point of concern for locals and commuters due to the rampant open dumping of waste. A large heap of garbage, primarily plastic, has accumulated near the public toilet, creating an unsightly and unsanitary environment. Sanitation workers report that municipal trucks only visit once a week, leading to unmanageable waste levels. This practice violates municipal bylaws and the guidelines set by the National Green Tribunal (NGT), which impose penalties ranging from ₹5,000 for individuals to ₹50,000 for bulk waste generators. Depot manager Gayatri Ahlawat acknowledged the issue and stated that while sweepers clean the premises daily, waste from surrounding shops and residential areas exacerbates the problem. Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) officials indicated that the Haryana Roadways is responsible for cleaning the bus stand, and plans are underway to improve cleaning practices and monitor open dumping in the area.
