The National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC), owned by the Ministry of Steel, has achieved a historic milestone by producing 53 million tonnes of iron ore in the financial year 2025-26. This represents a 51% increase in production for March alone, and NMDC is the first company in India's mining history to exceed the 50 million tonnes mark in annual production. The total production output for the year was 53.15 million tonnes, with sales reaching 50.23 million tonnes, reflecting a 13% increase. The growth has been driven by the performance of NMDC's major iron ore mines located in Kirandul and Bacheli in Chhattisgarh, as well as Donimalai in Karnataka. The Steel Ministry highlighted that FY26 was a transformative year for NMDC, marked by the inauguration of an international office in Dubai and the operationalization of the first coal mine in Jharkhand. Looking ahead, NMDC aims to enhance its production capacity to over 100 million tonnes by 2030, aligning with the national vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
