The Delhi government is taking significant steps to manage the pressure on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) supply amid the ongoing crisis in West Asia, particularly due to the conflict between the US, Israel, and Iran. Officials announced the expansion of the piped natural gas (PNG) network and the establishment of a control room to monitor black marketing and hoarding of LPG cylinders. Currently, there are approximately 56 lakh domestic LPG consumers in Delhi, and the government is encouraging a shift to PNG connections, which have been extended to nearly every village in the city. The demand for PNG has surged, with daily connections increasing from about 600 to over 1,500, with a target of reaching 3,000 connections per day. While LPG bookings initially rose to 2 lakh per day, they have now stabilized at 1.11 lakh, below the average of 1.60 lakh. To further streamline the supply, the revised LPG distribution policy prioritizes migrant laborers and links commercial LPG supply to PNG adoption. The government has also set up a helpline for reporting suspicious activities related to black marketing, with 27 cases registered for hoarding and illegal diversion.
