The Delhi Police are actively combating the hoarding and black marketing of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders, having registered 27 cases to date, including four new cases recently. Joint Commissioner of Police (Transport) Milind Mahadeo Dumbere confirmed that some individuals have been arrested in connection with these illegal activities. Local police have been deployed at gas agencies to ensure law and order, while the Intelligence wing is also involved in monitoring the situation. In parallel, the Indian government is pushing for the expansion of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connections to alleviate the pressure on LPG supplies, especially in light of the ongoing crisis in West Asia. Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Sujata Sharma, highlighted that several states have already benefited from this initiative, with additional allocations granted to eight states and applications from three more states currently under consideration.
