Western University in Ontario, Canada, has partnered with the University of Bristol in southwest England to create a new pathway for law graduates. This collaboration allows graduates with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from Bristol to pursue a Juris Doctor (JD) degree at Western in just two years, significantly reducing the time required compared to the usual three years. The program, announced by Western Law dean Mohamed Khimji, aims to attract 20-30 students annually. Notably, Bristol graduates who complete the JD will be eligible for bar admission in Canadian provinces without undergoing the National Committee on Accreditation assessment, which typically applies to foreign-trained lawyers. This partnership is expected to open doors for Bristol graduates seeking legal careers in Canada, enhancing their educational and professional opportunities. Catherine Kelly, head of the University of Bristol Law School, emphasized the global significance of this collaboration, highlighting its potential to enrich the legal education of students and expand their career prospects across North America.
