The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for gale-force winds affecting northern regions of the UK, including Scotland, Northern Ireland, and parts of northern England and Wales. The warning will be in effect from 6pm on Saturday to 12pm on Sunday, with predicted gusts of 50-60 mph widely, and potentially 80-90 mph in exposed areas of western Scotland. This severe weather is expected to cause significant travel disruptions, including delays and cancellations for road, rail, air, and ferry services. High-sided vehicles may face challenges on exposed routes, and there is a risk of power outages and damage to buildings. Met Office deputy chief meteorologist Dan Holley noted that a cold plunge from Canada is responsible for the severe weather, which will lead to strong winds overnight into Easter Sunday. While the weather will be unsettled, Tom Morgan, another meteorologist, indicated that much of the UK could still experience dry weather, particularly in England and Wales, with Easter Monday expected to be bright and dry. March was noted as one of the warmest on record in England and Wales, with significant variations in rainfall across the UK.
