The Delhi Government has approved the establishment of nine Wildlife Inspector posts within the Forests & Wildlife Department to enhance wildlife conservation efforts in the city. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta emphasized the importance of this initiative in addressing urban environmental challenges and protecting biodiversity. The posts, classified under Level-6 of the Pay Matrix, will significantly improve the department's capacity to prevent poaching and manage human-wildlife conflicts. Previously, the department had only one Wildlife Inspector at its headquarters, leaving four field divisions without dedicated staff, which hampered enforcement and biodiversity management. With the approval of Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu, the Recruitment Rules for these positions have been amended and notified. Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa stated that this decision is crucial for ensuring the safety and prosperity of Delhi's biodiversity amidst urbanization. The recruitment for eight of the nine posts will be conducted through the Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board (DSSSB), marking a significant step toward reinforcing the institutional framework for a sustainable urban ecosystem.
