In response to global energy supply disruptions, the Maharashtra government has ordered an expedited expansion of the City Gas Distribution (CGD) network across the state. This initiative follows a directive from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, which highlighted the impact of geopolitical developments on energy supply chains. The government resolution issued on March 27 outlines measures to facilitate the rapid deployment of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) connections. To streamline the process, pending permissions from municipal corporations and other authorities for laying CGD pipelines will be considered 'deemed approved'. Local bodies are mandated to grant new permissions within 24 hours, and charges for road restoration and various permissions have been waived. CGD companies will be allowed to work continuously, with relaxed restrictions on working seasons. The order will remain in effect until June 30, 2026, ensuring that all departments prioritize the implementation of this critical infrastructure project.
