On April 6, a suspected thief named Harvinder Singh (32) attempted a dramatic escape at Sihora railway station in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. After being pursued by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) for allegedly trying to snatch a woman's purse, Singh jumped into a nearby pond and submerged himself for nearly five hours, using a lotus stem to breathe. Trained divers were called in to locate him, and despite his exhaustion, he attempted to flee again upon resurfacing but was subdued by the RPF team. Singh, a habitual offender with a criminal history spanning multiple states, was identified using the Interoperable Criminal Justice System (ICJS). He faces charges under the Railway Act and is set to appear before the Special Railway Magistrate in Jabalpur. The operation was conducted as part of 'Operation Yatri Suraksha', which aims to enhance passenger safety on trains and railway premises.
