On Sunday night, Dola Ajith Babu, a 21-year-old cricket umpire, was stabbed to death following a heated dispute over a run-out decision during a local tournament in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India. The incident occurred after the match when Kanta Kishore, a 26-year-old spectator, called the umpires to 'settle the matter' away from the field. Despite initial attempts by Ajith Babu and his fellow umpire Budumuri Chiranjeevi to calm tensions, a new argument erupted, leading Kishore to pull out a knife and stab Ajith Babu in the chest. Ajith Babu was rushed to VIMS Hospital and later to Apollo Hospital, where he was declared dead despite emergency treatment. Police have registered a murder case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and are currently searching for Kishore, who remains at large. The incident has raised serious concerns regarding security measures at local cricket matches, prompting authorities to call for better crowd management and medical facilities at venues.
