The Allahabad High Court has acquitted Raiyyan, one of the accused in the 2016 murder of National Investigation Agency (NIA) officer Mohammad Tanzil and his wife Farzana. The couple was shot dead on April 2-3, 2016, while returning from a wedding in Bijnor district, Uttar Pradesh, India. The court criticized the prosecution's case, highlighting 'unexplained and questionable conduct' of witnesses and a lack of reliable evidence. The trial court had previously sentenced Raiyyan and another accused, Munir, to death, but Munir died in hospital after a prolonged illness. Justice Siddharth, in a ruling on March 31, stated that the trial court committed a 'grave error' in its judgment, leading to Raiyyan's immediate release unless he is wanted in other cases.
