A 34-year-old man, Mujahid Jamal Shaikh, has been granted regular bail by a Delhi court after being arrested for allegedly reposting an AI-generated image depicting Prime Minister Narendra Modi bowing to actor Shah Rukh Khan on the social media platform X. The court, presided over by Additional Sessions Judge Saurabh Pratap Singh Laler, found that the Delhi Police had completed their investigation without making any recoveries and determined there was no risk of Shaikh tampering with evidence. The police charged him with offences including criminal defamation and promoting hatred under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and the Information Technology Act, 2000. The FIR against Shaikh was registered on February 18, and he was arrested on March 18, following the seizure of his mobile phone. The court emphasized that Shaikh had no previous criminal record and was the sole breadwinner for his family, making him unlikely to abscond. Additionally, the court ordered an inquiry into a disputed document related to his arrest, which the police claimed was not part of their official records.
