The Allahabad High Court has expressed serious concern regarding the Uttar Pradesh Police's failure to include the honorifics 'Honourable' and 'Mr' before BJP MP Anurag Thakur's name in a First Information Report (FIR) related to a job scam. The FIR was filed in December 2022 in Mathura district, where Thakur, a former Union Minister for Sports, Youth Affairs, and Information and Broadcasting, was mentioned without the proper titles. The court has directed the UP Additional Chief Secretary of the Home Department to submit an affidavit explaining this lapse in protocol. The FIR stems from a complaint by Khajan Singh, who accused Harshit Sharma of collecting ₹80 lakh (approximately $96,000 USD) under false pretenses of securing government jobs, claiming connections to Thakur. Singh alleged that Thakur reprimanded Sharma for misusing his name when they met in Delhi. The court has scheduled a follow-up hearing for April 6 to further address the case and has instructed the police to clarify the ownership of a Fortuner SUV involved in the allegations.
