Bhaskar Bhattacharya, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate for the Sreerampur constituency in West Bengal, has resigned from his position as an independent director at Power Finance Corporation Limited (PFCL). He stated that his resignation aims to prevent any potential conflict of interest due to his candidacy in the upcoming assembly elections. Bhattacharya highlighted the pressing development needs in Sreerampur, including improvements in health, education, law and order, and basic infrastructure such as roads and drinking water. He expressed optimism about the support he is receiving from voters, indicating a desire for change in the constituency. Bhattacharya also stressed the importance of a transparent electoral process, ensuring that voters can participate freely and that the counting of votes is conducted without irregularities. The Election Commission of India has scheduled polling in 152 constituencies for April 23 and in 142 constituencies, including Sreerampur, for April 29, with vote counting set for May 4. Bhattacharya had recently been re-appointed to the PFCL Board, a significant financial institution in India's power sector, on May 13, 2025.
