On Thursday night, gunfire erupted at the residence of Sukhdarshan Singh, a property dealer in Hoshiarpur village, New Chandigarh. Two masked men on a motorcycle opened fire, hitting the outer wall and a window of the house, but fortunately, no injuries were reported. Police suspect the shooting is linked to an extortion attempt made by gangster Lucky Patial, who allegedly demanded ₹1 crore from Singh about ten days prior. Following the incident, senior officers from the Mohali police, along with teams from the Crime Investigation Agency and the State Forensic Science Laboratory, quickly arrived at the scene to initiate an investigation. Forensic experts recovered five empty .32-bore shells. Mohali Superintendent of Police Saurav Jindal stated that no one has claimed responsibility for the attack, and investigations are ongoing to determine the connection between the extortion call and the shooting.
