Central Railway has announced the operation of over 2,100 summer special trains from Mumbai and Pune to manage the expected surge in passenger traffic during the holiday season. This initiative includes 735 unreserved and 624 reserved trains, facilitating travel to various destinations within Maharashtra, such as Solapur and Kolhapur, as well as routes extending to cities like Ballia and Gorakhpur. The summer special services will include existing 'Trains on Demand' and additional trains introduced for peak travel times. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted that Indian Railways operated a record 76,352 special trains in the fiscal year 2025-26, with daily operations of 25,000 trains across the national network. The railway sector also achieved a milestone in logistics, transporting 1,670 million metric tons of cargo, reflecting a 3.25% increase in freight loading. Additionally, new initiatives are underway to create specialized passenger holding zones at 76 stations to improve traveler comfort and reduce crowding.
