The Shirdi police have questioned Prathiba Chakankar and her son regarding four accounts in a cooperative bank located in Rahata tehsil, which are allegedly linked to Ashok Kharat, a self-styled godman who has been arrested. These accounts, totaling around ₹1.20 crore in transactions, are suspected to have been operated by Kharat, who is named as a nominee on all accounts despite being in different names. Prathiba, the sister of senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Rupali Chakankar, stated that she was unaware of the accounts and claimed that neither she nor her son operated them. The police are investigating over 100 bank accounts in the area connected to Kharat. Meanwhile, Kharat has been remanded to 14 days of judicial custody in Nashik related to another case involving allegations of sexual abuse against a former staff member's wife, with further charges expected to follow.
