Sunetra Pawar, the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra and a leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), launched her campaign for the Baramati assembly bypoll at the Kanheri Maruti Temple, a site significant to her family. During her emotional tribute to her late father-in-law, Ajit Pawar, she expressed her commitment to public service, stating that his legacy will guide her efforts. Pawar addressed initial skepticism about her political role, crediting the support from Baramati residents for her confidence. She highlighted the 'Ladki Bahin' scheme, which provides ₹1,500 monthly to nearly two crore women, as a testament to effective governance. Additionally, she discussed local issues such as the Nira river-linking project and the Purandar lift irrigation scheme, aimed at improving agricultural productivity in drought-prone areas. Pawar also announced plans for a new 1,000-acre Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) in Indapur, expected to create jobs for local youth. Infrastructure improvements, including a government medical college and a cancer hospital, were also emphasized. To support students during exams, she urged farmers to limit electricity use during peak hours.
