On April 13, 2023, India and France conducted a comprehensive review of their bilateral relationship, focusing on defence, civil nuclear energy, space, and digital cooperation, amidst the backdrop of the West Asia conflict. Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and French Foreign Ministry Secretary-General Martin Briens led the discussions in Paris, which were part of the India-France Foreign Office Consultations. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) noted that the review was significant in light of the recent elevation of ties to a Special Global Strategic Partnership and French President Emmanuel Macron's visit to India in February. The talks also aimed at enhancing economic security, with a shared ambition to double bilateral trade and increase the movement of Indian students to France. Additionally, the discussions encompassed strategic cooperation in areas such as artificial intelligence, cyber security, and cultural exchanges. Both sides also addressed global issues, including climate change, health, and developments in the Indo-Pacific region, as well as the ongoing situations in West Asia and Ukraine.
