In Gurugram, Haryana, India, two men were arrested for allegedly defrauding a victim of his villa through a deceptive barter deal related to a commercial real estate project in Sector 85. The accused, both residents of Sector 109, were apprehended by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW)-II on Friday. The case stems from a complaint filed on June 4, 2025, where the victim claimed that in 2021, the accused convinced him to invest in two commercial units with promises of assured returns. However, the victim reported that the company failed to deliver on these promises and did not honor the buyback agreement. The accused, while not directly linked to the Sector 85 project, were affiliated with a property management company. They proposed a barter arrangement, leading the victim to transfer ownership of his villa in exchange for commercial units that were never allocated. One of the accused confessed to orchestrating the scheme, while the other acted as a broker, receiving ₹8 lakh for his role. An FIR has been filed under relevant sections for cheating and forgery, and the investigation continues to identify other potential accomplices.
