Syed Raza Hussain, a parking contractor from Bhora Colony near Jalandhar Bypass, was arrested in Ludhiana, Punjab, for allegedly assaulting vendors and intimidating Harinder Singh Gill, secretary of the Market Committee under the Punjab Mandi Board. The conflict began when complaints of overcharging arose against Hussain's firm, which had been awarded a contract for operating a parking lot and installing vending points at a local vegetable market for the period from April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026. After a bidding process, the contract was awarded to another company, prompting Hussain to seek a temporary extension through the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Following the suspension of his contract due to complaints, Hussain allegedly began collecting money from vendors and assaulted them when they complained. Gill reported the incidents to senior officials, leading to Hussain's arrest under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges of assault and extortion. Despite being arrested, he was granted bail shortly after.
