In a decisive move, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann ordered the transfer of all 11 police personnel stationed at the Kot Shamir police post in Bathinda district on Sunday. This action was prompted by allegations from local sarpanch Lakha Singh, who claimed that police had failed to act against drug peddlers despite multiple complaints. Singh highlighted the alarming ease of drug availability in the area and mentioned a death attributed to a drug overdose. Following these serious allegations, the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Bathinda range, Harjeet Singh, confirmed that a departmental probe has been initiated against the station house officer of the Sada police station, which oversees the Kot Shamir post. DIG Singh clarified that no personnel were suspended but emphasized the need for an investigation, noting that Gulabgarh is not listed as a narcotics hotspot by district police. However, the allegations raised during the meeting warrant further scrutiny.
