The counter-intelligence wing of Punjab Police has arrested Gurtej Singh and Amanpreet Singh, the two main suspects involved in the grenade attack outside the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) office in Sector 37, Chandigarh, on April 1. This brings the total number of arrests in the case to seven. The suspects, both from Rattangarh in Rupnagar, were reportedly trying to escape to Nepal when apprehended. Amanpreet Singh has a criminal record, including theft and snatching charges. The police revealed that the attackers had connections with a terror module allegedly supported by Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), with handlers based in Portugal and Germany. The suspects were promised a monetary reward of ₹2 lakh (approximately $2,400 USD) for executing the attack. The attack, which occurred around 5 PM on April 1, did not result in any casualties, although a video surfaced showing the attack being recorded. The incident has raised concerns about the influence of foreign-based terror networks in India.
