The Railway Board has officially approved a new route for the Amritsar-Katra Vande Bharat Express, which is operated by the Northern Railway zone. This semi-high-speed train, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in August 2025, will now travel via Gurdaspur instead of Jalandhar Cantt. The change is aimed at enhancing passenger experience and improving regional connectivity. The train, numbered 26405/26406, will cover the distance in 5 hours and will run daily except on Saturdays. It will stop at four stations: Batala, Gurdaspur, Pathankot, and Jammu Tawi. The updated timetable indicates that the Katra-Amritsar service will leave Katra at 06:40 hrs and arrive in Amritsar at 11:40 hrs, while the return journey will depart Amritsar at 16:40 hrs and reach Katra by 21:45 hrs. The train comprises 8 coaches, offering both AC Chair Car and Executive Chair Car seating arrangements.
