Pimpri-Chinchwad police have charged two landowners, Khandu Damu Chinchawde and Dhananjay Khandu Chinchawde, for allegedly dumping construction debris on the bank of the Pavana River in Chinchwad, Maharashtra. The complaint was filed by Pankaj Dhende, a deputy engineer in the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) environment engineering department. The dumping occurred between April 1 and April 10, 2026, near Chinchwade Lawns, without the necessary civic permissions. Authorities stated that such activities are prohibited as they can obstruct water flow and increase the risk of flooding, particularly as the area falls within the flood line. The landowners face charges under multiple laws, including the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986, and the Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act, 1888. Sanjay Kulkarni, chief engineer of the PCMC environment department, noted that the illegal dumping has narrowed the river channel and affected nearby drainage systems. Despite previous directives to remove the debris, no action was taken by the landowners.
