The Gatimaan Express, India's first semi-high-speed train, celebrated its 10th anniversary on April 5, 2026. Launched by former Railway Minister Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu from Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station in New Delhi, the train initially operated between Hazrat Nizamuddin and Agra Cantt. In April 2018, the service was extended to Virangana Lakshmibai Jhansi Junction, enhancing access to tourist sites in the Bundelkhand region, notably Gwalior and Jhansi.
The Gatimaan Express operates at a maximum speed of 160 km/h and runs six days a week, excluding Fridays. It stops at two key stations en route: Agra Cantt and Gwalior. The train is powered by a 5500 HP electric locomotive and consists of two Executive AC Chair Car coaches and eight AC Chair Car coaches, all equipped with modern facilities, including bio toilets. The fare for the journey ranges from ₹1,140 (approximately $14 USD) for Chair Car to ₹2,300 (approximately $28 USD) for Executive Class, making it a premium travel option for passengers.
