The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has removed the property tax criterion for beneficiaries of the ‘Late Deputy Chief Minister Ajitdada Pawar Urban Poor Health Scheme’. This decision allows low-income families, previously restricted by a tax payment threshold of ₹5,000 (approximately $60 USD), to access subsidized healthcare. Dr. Sanjeev Wavare, assistant health chief, confirmed that while the property tax condition has been lifted, the annual income limit of ₹1.60 lakh (approximately $1,930 USD) will still apply. Launched in 2010, the scheme, which covers treatment costs up to ₹1 lakh ($1,200 USD) and ₹2 lakh ($2,400 USD) for critical illnesses, is expected to benefit more families now. The standing committee chairman, Shrinath Bhimale, noted that the previous tax condition had deprived many poor and middle-income families of necessary healthcare services. The removal of the clause was proposed by BJP corporator Bala Oswal and received committee approval.
