As New Jersey gears up for the Spring 2026 assessments, the state has released the results from the Spring 2025 tests for grades 3 to 5. Overall, 53% of students achieved proficiency in English/language arts, while proficiency rates in math and science were significantly lower at 41% and 27%, respectively. To qualify as proficient, students must score above 750 in math and English/language arts, and above 200 in science. The state Department of Education uses these assessments to evaluate student performance against the Student Learning Standards and to identify those who may need additional support. The 2024-25 assessments showed signs of improvement after declines during the pandemic. The mean scores for the assessments were 742 in English/language arts and 748 in math for grade 3, 749 in English/language arts and 746 in math for grade 4, and 750 in English/language arts, 745 in math, and 173 in science for grade 5. A searchable table of scores by school, district, and county is available for parents and stakeholders to compare performance across New Jersey.
