Prof. Manish R. Joshi has officially resigned from his position as secretary of the University Grants Commission (UGC), effective April 25, 2026. His resignation, submitted on March 30, was accepted to allow him to return to his parent institution, the School of Computer Sciences at Kavayitri Bahinabai Chaudhari North Maharashtra University in Jalgaon, India. The UGC order dated April 10 states that Joshi will report back to his previous role. Although he will be relieved of his duties on April 25, he is expected to go on leave starting April 11 and may not be present physically. In the interim, Prof. Shyama Rath, who serves as member secretary of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), will take on the additional responsibilities of UGC secretary from the same date.
