Metro Line 9, which will connect Dahisar East to Mira Bhayandar, is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2026. Meanwhile, Metro Line 2B, a crucial 23.45-km corridor linking DN Nagar in Andheri to Mandale in Mankhurd, is slated for completion by the end of 2027. During the inauguration of two partial stretches, Fadnavis emphasized the importance of these expansions for enhancing connectivity across Mumbai. The project is expected to cut travel time from 90 minutes to just 15 minutes by May 2028, significantly alleviating traffic congestion. The total cost for Metro Line 2B is estimated at ₹10,986 crore (approximately $1.3 billion USD), with an anticipated daily ridership of 8.9 lakh (890,000) rising to 10.5 lakh (1.05 million) by 2031. In addition to these lines, tunnelling work for the Thane-Borivali twin tunnels was also launched, with plans for compensatory afforestation of 11,000 trees to mitigate environmental impact.
