The Maharashtra government has reassured residents that there is no shortage of petroleum products, including petrol, diesel, and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), despite concerns arising from the West Asia crisis. Anil Diggikar, Additional Chief Secretary for Food and Civil Supplies, stated that the state has sufficient stocks of petrol and diesel, with daily consumption remaining stable at around 18,500 kilolitres of petrol and 40,000 kilolitres of diesel. The LPG supply, previously challenged due to dependence on imports, is improving with phased relaxations allowing essential services to receive allocations. Currently, Maharashtra is 45-50% self-sufficient in LPG, with a reserve of 27,000 metric tonnes sufficient for nearly three days. Strict measures against hoarding have resulted in the seizure of 2,930 cylinders and 28,965 kg of LPG, with multiple arrests made. The government is also promoting Piped Natural Gas (PNG) as a cost-effective alternative and has set a deadline for consumers to register for PNG connections. Officials emphasized that LPG supply will remain uninterrupted in areas without PNG infrastructure, ensuring that citizens need not panic.
