On Tuesday, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis launched four significant infrastructure projects aimed at improving connectivity in Mumbai, India. The operationalisation of Metro Line 9, which connects Dahisar East to Kashigaon, is expected to enhance suburban connectivity for commuters. The Metro Line 2B, which will run from Maharashtra Nagar–Mandale to Diamond Garden in Chembur, is also gaining momentum and will link crucial eastern and western corridors. Fadnavis outlined a phased completion plan for Metro 2B, which will integrate with the Harbour Line, alleviating pressure on Mumbai's crowded suburban railway network. Additionally, the government is advancing a pod taxi project designed for last-mile connectivity in the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC), expected to be completed within 20 months. These projects, alongside investments in road infrastructure, position Mumbai to become a more accessible and commuter-friendly city. Once the full metro network is operational, it is anticipated that nearly 70 lakh commuters will shift to metro services, significantly easing congestion on local trains and roads.
