On April 8, the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court quashed a dowry harassment case against Amit Khanna and his parents, emphasizing that the continuation of the case would constitute an abuse of the legal process. The court highlighted that the wife’s brother had filed the complaint in 2015, while a family court in Gurugram ruled in favor of the husband in 2021, stating that cruelty was proven against the wife. Justice Brij Raj Singh noted the unreasonable delay of two years in filing the complaint and pointed out that no FIR or medical examination was conducted after the alleged incident. Evidence presented showed that the husband and his family were not present during the alleged incident, further casting doubt on the credibility of the claims. The court's decision to quash the proceedings included dismissing earlier orders from the Chief Judicial Magistrate and Additional District Judge courts, reinforcing the notion that the case was filed with mala fide intentions.
