Ashok Kharat, a self-styled godman from Nashik, Maharashtra, India, was remanded to judicial custody until April 14 by Chief Judicial Magistrate BN Ichpurani. He was arrested on March 18 after a 35-year-old woman accused him of repeated rape over three years, with seven additional women coming forward with similar allegations. Kharat is also facing three cases of cheating and fraud filed by two businessmen from Pune and Ahilyanagar, and a farmer from Shirdi. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) is expected to re-arrest him in connection with another sexual abuse case involving a married woman who alleged repeated rape since 2020. Following the court hearing, Kharat was taken for a medical examination and is currently held in Nashik Central Jail. Meanwhile, police are searching for Kharat's wife, Kalpana, and aide, Ashok Tambe, who are absconding in a related cheating case.
