The Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has intensified its efforts to combat corruption among police personnel, leading to a series of arrests across the state. In a prominent case from Hyderabad, two officers attached to the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport Police Outpost were arrested on April 7 for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹2 lakh (approximately $2,400 USD) from a complainant. Inspector Sampathi Kanakaiah and Sub-Inspector UK Siddeshwar were caught after demanding ₹5 lakh (approximately $6,000 USD) in exchange for promising to file a charge sheet in a pending case. During searches at Kanakaiah's residence, ACB officials recovered ₹33.97 lakh (around $40,800 USD), marking the largest seizure in the recent crackdown. The ACB has also arrested several other officers statewide, including those in Cyber Crime and various districts, for accepting bribes ranging from ₹15,000 to ₹1 lakh (approximately $180 to $1,200 USD). In response to these incidents, Telangana's Director General of Police B Shivadhar Reddy stated that corruption has no place in the police force, urging citizens to report any bribery through the ACB's toll-free helpline.
