In a tragic development, a 54-year-old man, accused in the lynching of Ram Narayan Baghel, a Dalit worker from Chhattisgarh, was found dead near his home in Attappallam, Palakkad district, Kerala. The police suspect that he may have died by suicide. His body has been sent to the Palakkad government district hospital for an autopsy. The lynching incident occurred on December 17, 2022, when Baghel, who had recently arrived in Kerala seeking daily-wage employment, was beaten to death by a mob that suspected him of theft. The deceased was one of nine individuals arrested in connection with Baghel's death and was out on bail at the time of his passing. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) is investigating the case and has challenged his bail in the High Court. The incident has sparked protests from Baghel's family, who opposed the bail granted to most of the accused, leading to the High Court's cancellation of bail for eight of the nine suspects in February.
