The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) is undergoing a strategic shift to better align its institutes with contemporary healthcare demands. The National Institute for Research in Reproductive and Child Health in Mumbai has been renamed the National Institute for Research on Women's Health (NIRWoH) to broaden its focus beyond reproductive health to include various health issues unique to women. According to Dr. Geetanjali Sachdeva, the goal is to create a better world for women by addressing conditions such as polycystic ovarian syndrome, endometriosis, and mental health issues. Additionally, the National Institute of Child Health and Development Research in New Delhi aims to tackle significant gaps in child survival and nutrition, with a focus on emerging challenges such as childhood obesity and the effects of climate change on health. The ICMR's efforts reflect a commitment to comprehensive research and innovation in women's and children's health, addressing both existing and new health challenges.
