Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced the establishment of the Shaheed Udham Singh State Institute of Medical Sciences in Hoshiarpur, which will cost ₹268 crore (approximately $32 million USD) and is expected to be completed within two years. This new medical college will train 100 MBBS doctors annually and will feature a 300-bed hospital equipped with advanced medical facilities such as outpatient departments (OPD), MRI, and CT scans. Mann made this announcement during a gathering where he also launched development projects worth ₹516 crore in the Sham Chaurasi assembly segment. Currently, Punjab has only four state-run medical colleges compared to seven private institutions, highlighting a need for more government facilities. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has committed to establishing 16 government medical colleges during its five-year tenure. Mann also laid the foundation stone for a ₹99 crore road project aimed at improving connectivity in the region. He criticized opposition parties for their past governance and emphasized the AAP's commitment to serving the public.
